Cynthiana’s director of public works and utilities, Nathan Fields, is retiring this week after serving the city for three and one-half years.
Fields came to Cynthiana from a 29-year career with the Kentucky State Highway Department.
“I feel very fortunate to have had the support of the commissioners and mayor who entrusted me with control over four departments,” Fields said of his supervisory role over the water distribution, water treatment plant, waste water treatment plant and public works.
“I am very blessed to have served here,” Fields said.
During his time in Cynthiana, the departments received a new public works facility located off Safety Way, new uniforms, equipment, over $500,000 was acquired for Water Works and Bridge Street improvements, implemented a new pump station at the high school, design of a new water tower at the Industrial Park, and implemented the use and purchase of a street sweeper.
Fields’ last day for Cynthiana was Wednesday, Aug. 31, but he won’t be leaving the county for long. In fact, on Tuesday, Sept. 6, the Pendleton County native will step in as the new manager at Harrison County Water Association at its new location in the Industrial Park.
The Association has been without a director since the death of Mark Patrick in March 2022.
Fields said he is looking forward to taking on the new position.
“It’s a financial move,” Fields said. “...an opportunity I didn’t see coming, but it’s one that I felt I needed to explore for my family.”
Fields, who lives in Pendleton County, has one son, Ryan, 10, and a daughter, Hannah, 6, and his fiancé, Raegan Sharp.
