The Pendleton County Clerk’s Office on Friday celebrated the retirement of longtime clerk Rita Spencer — a week early. Spencer said they didn’t want to clash with the retirement celebration this coming Friday of Circuit Court Clerk Michael Redden. Both Spencer and Redden officially are retiring this Friday. Spencer has served as county clerk for 24 years and before that, was a deputy clerk, totaling 34 ½ years in the office. Presumptive County Clerk-elect Kinley Scott has been appointed as interim clerk to finish out the year. As for Redden's seat, The Republican Party is meeting Monday at Pendleton Hills Country Club to appoint an interim circuit court clerk. County voters will decide the successors to both clerk positions during the Nov. 3 general election.
