FALMOUTH — Klaber Wolfe, son of Nick and Natalie Wolfe of Demossville, arrived at Pendleton County High School in style on his last day of school.
Klaber, with five of his friends, reigned in the back while his brother rode in the front seat as “captain,” arrived at school in a limo provided by the school system to celebrate his achievement of perfect attendance throughout all 13 years of school.
This is a feat not easily accomplished. Superintendent Joe Buerkley said that he doesn’t remember any students reaching this milestone since the 2015-16 school year when class of 2016 grad Bailey Boden Koeninger was recognized.
According to Natalie Wolfe, her son has been “very blessed. He’s never been a sick kid, not even with COVID.
“He’s always enjoyed school,” she said.
“In elementary school, it just kind of happened,” Klaber said.
When he realized that he had an attendance streak going, he made it a goal to stay healthy, stay focused and to not break it — and finished perfectly.
“Just lucky, I guess,” he said.
Nick Wolfe said, “He’s a go-getter. It’s just a good way to get through life.”
Assistant Superintendent Matt Compton said that since 1978 — 48 years ago — there have been only six, maybe seven, students who have recorded perfect attendance their whole school career.
A preliminary search of other PC grads reaching this milestone since the establishment of kindergarten showed that Bridget Mains Yelton reached it in 1999, Ashley Flaugher Nichols in 2001, and Natalie Kelsch Stewart in 2008.
It’s possible that there are others, but that information was not available by press time.
Klaber who has been an active participant in 4-H throughout his school career, will attend Lake Land College in Mattoon, Illinois, this fall and serving as a member of the school’s livestock judging team.
