Academic teams earn medals

Northern and Southern Elementary academic teams competed Feb. 1 against Taylor, Mason Intermediate and Augusta at Taylor Elementary at the Kentucky’s Governor’s Cup academic competition.

On Jan. 27, a group of 42 youngsters, ages 5-8, met at the Pendleton County Extension Office in Falmouth for a “souper” good time as the 4-H Cloverbuds explored soup.

SMS students make dog toys for the animal shelter

By Nila HarrisBUTLER — When Sharp Middle School student Kendall Cummins was asked why she chose to make dog toys for the Pendleton County Animal Shelter, she said, “We love animals, and I got my dog there.”Cummins’ dog Presley was a rescue from the shelter.

Caleb Biddle was named Snowball Dance King, and Kree Brewer as queen of the annual Pendleton County High School Snowball Dance, held Saturday. The dance was sponsored by the PCHS Cheer Team, which uses the money raised to pay for extra training and regional, state and national competitions.

Wildcats claim wins over Nicholas and Bracken counties

By Sam McClanahan The Pendleton County Wildcats basketball team returned to action following a lengthy 11-day layoff thanks to the recent snowstorm that swept through the state.On January 11, the team hosted Montgomery County in their first home game in three weeks.

By Nila Harris BUTLER — On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Northern Elementary students trotted off for Thanksgiving break, the school held its annual Turkey Trot for students in grades K-5.

Schools offer incentives to recruit bus drivers

By Burton Cole BUTLER — Short of bus drivers, the Pendleton County School District is ready to pay current drivers $1,500 for every new driver they recruit.

PCHS Bowling finishes runner-up at Holy Cross, scores road win over Bishop Brossart

By Rhonda Hutchison On November 16, the Pendleton County bowling team participated in the Holy Cross High School Team Baker Event. Five team members had to bowl two seeding games each.The Wildcats had a total pin count of 1732 and seeded fourth out of 15 boys teams.

By Nila Harris BUTLER — When Northern Elementary School media specialist Tina Record was told that 100 books had been donated to the school library, she was pleasantly surprised.But when she saw the actual books, she was ecstatic.
