Northern and Southern Elementary academic teams competed Feb. 1 against Taylor, Mason Intermediate and Augusta at Taylor Elementary at the Kentucky’s Governor’s Cup academic competition.
Competitions included Quick Recall, a team-based buzzer game, Future Problem Solving, a team-based competition, and content assessments in math, language arts, science, social studies, arts and humanities, and composition.
Northern Elementary’ Future Problem Solving team consisting of Maya Jacobs, Parker Bau, Beulah Gillespie and Nolan Mullins placed first at the competition.
Archer Jones placed fifth in math content assessment.

In the Language arts content assessment, Wilhelmenia Hamilton placed fourth. In composition, Larkin McCain placed second and Wilhelmenia Hamilton placed fourth. Northern Elementary placed third overall.
For Southern Elementary, Michael Pintha placed second in the science content assessment. For the social studies content assessment, Elijah Best placed first and Michael Pintha placed fifth.
Students who place in the top five in individual events and teams who place in the top two, advance to regionals on March 1 at Johnson Elementary in Fort Thomas.

Sharp Middle School’s academic team competed in the District Governor’s Cub on Jan. 18 at SS. Peter and Paul School, California.
The Future Problem-Solving Team, consisting of Estelle Alsip, Carter Dunn, Hallie Cahill, and Logan MacNeil took first place honors. Subject tests results were Jackson Jacobs, fourth place in social studies; Silas Derico, fifth place in language arts; Shiloh Williams, fifth place in science; Lilly Jones, fourth in written composition; and Kenzie King, fifth in written composition.
The team will be competing this week in the Regional Governor’s Cup tournament at Summit View Middle School.
