As Dontaie Allen continues to mull over the decision as to where he will next play college basketball, one thing has become clear. He’s going to be patient in making sure he finds the perfect match.
The Falmouth Outlook has learned that several new universities have reached out to the now former Kentucky Wildcat including West Virginia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, DePaul and Iona, currently coached by former Kentucky coach and hall of famer Rick Pitino.
According to Allen’s mother, April Allen-Thomas, he’s in no hurry to make a quick decision. She says this process will be all about making sure he’s found the right fit.
“He’s going to take his time in making his decision. He’s only focused on finding the right fit and having a coach that truly believes in him “ she explained.
The popular belief is that Allen will choose a school that is close by to his hometown community of Pendleton County, but his mother states that location is not the primary factor.
“Distance doesn’t matter to him. The school, campus, and facilities are important but nothing means more than the relationship with the head coach,”
Besides a conversation with Pitino, Allen has also spoken to Bob Huggins at West Virginia and Western Kentucky’s Rick Stansbury. In fact, the WKU head man and an assistant were spotted having lunch at Howard’s Place in Falmouth days after Allen’s announcement that he was entering the transfer portal. Stansbury has also flown to Virginia to talk with Allen’s father. Both Huggins and Stansbury were heavily involved in recruiting Allen during his high school career. It is expected that Allen will make visits to different universities as well as host different coaches at the family residence in Pendleton County in the near future.
Allen has been spending much of his time recently working out with a couple of non-UK affiliated trainers in Lexington keeping his body and mind in top condition as he showcases his abilities while trying to find the ideal spot to continue chasing his dreams.
“I’m going to shock the world,” Allen tweeted on April 1. As his decision process continues forward he’s squarely focused on taking the experience he’s gained in recent years and applying it in his next chapter.
