About Us

Falmouth Outlook is a weekly newspaper that covers the latest headlines, community events and local happenings in Falmouth, Butler, and other areas of Pendleton County. It was founded June 21,1907 by Warren J. Shonert with only six subscribers at start-up. The newspaper is now owned by the Delphos Herald, who purchased it in January of 1986. The weekly circulation has grown to nearly 3,600 readers a week with subscriptions, newsstand sales and the e-edition.

This small town media outlet produces an award-winning publication for its readers. It is consistently recognized by the news industry each year. In 2018, the Outlook received 21 awards from the Kentucky Press Association, for their work from October of 2017 to September of 2018. Editorial was honored with ten awards including five first place finishes. Advertising claimed 11 awards with three first place awards. This is quite an accomplishment for one of the smallest newspaper staffs in the state. It clearly shows the level of dedication of the employees and the pride taken in their work.

Neil Belcher, who has 41 years in the newspaper business, is the current publisher of The Falmouth Outlook. He manages the daily operation of the newspaper, specializing in advertising sales. Belcher assumed these duties in January of 2015 after the retirement of Debbie Dennie, longtime editor/publisher of 33 years. Pendleton County High School alum and retired teacher, Keith Smith, was officially named Editor in the fall of 2018 but has been handling those responsibilities since December of 2017. He first started working for Falmouth Outlook as a junior at Pendleton County High School in 1981 covering Ladycat basketball. Throughout his teaching tenure at Pendleton County High School, he had been working as a reporter covering a litany of sports. After retiring in January of 2017, he joined the staff of the paper learning and helping layout pages.

The eyes and ears of the community, The Falmouth Outlook has recorded the local history and events of Pendleton County for over a century while never missing a single week of publication since its small and humble beginning. It has withstood devastating floods, damaging tornadoes, and other hardships in order to achieve this 112 year accomplishment.

Each week the newspaper features breaking news, births/deaths, marriages, court records, school news, church news, opinion letters, area columnists, sports, upcoming events, Meet Your Merchant, extension news, classified ads, community happenings and other important local issues. Monthly meetings of the city and county governments are reported as well as school board news and club/organization meetings. Looking Back, The Outlook Travels and Way Back When remain a constant favorite of readers.

There are several informational guides and special sections printed at different times throughout the year. They include the Pendleton County High School Senior Graduation Tab, Kentucky Wool Festival Book, 38th District Tournament Pullout, Relay For Life Book, NCAA March Madness Tournament Pullout, Business Card Directory, Pendleton County Guide, Holiday Recipe Book & Gift Guide, Moonlight Madness Specials, Home Improvement Guide and others!

The Outlook staff has produced two versions of a history book about Pendleton County called "The Forks of the Licking". Copies are still available to purchase for $21.95 each. (Shipping + handling is an additional $3.95 per book.)

The Falmouth Outlook is published weekly and made available to newsstands on Tuesday mornings. The paper can be obtained through mail subscription or at the newsstand of most local businesses throughout Pendleton and the surrounding counties.

Most of the ads printed in the newspaper can also be found in the Shopper pages along with a detailed classified section, help wanted ads, local services, posted land notices, rentals, real estate listings, community event announcements, Meet Your Merchant, thank you notes, special sales sections, and more!
