Are you concerned about our community?  Do you worry about Pendleton County’s school children? First responders?  If so, come join the community-wide prayer drive!  Organizer Kenna Knight had recently participated in a Bible study called The Circle Maker by Pastor Mark Batterson. This study explores the Scripture in which God calls upon Joshua to have his army march around the city of Jericho for seven days. On the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times; seven priests were to blow trumpets, and all were to shout.  When God’s people were faithful, the walls of their enemy collapsed (Joshua ch.6).
Throughout the Bible Study (organized by Turner Ridge Baptist Church but has participants from several churches), the participants talked about prayer concerns they have for the community.  Knight took place in the study and felt “something was put on my heart” to address the concerns.  This prompted the organization of a community-wide Prayer Drive. According to fellow Bible Study participant Sheila Wright, “We want to circle our community in prayer.” Christy Baumgartener added, “We definitely need prayers for our community.”
Beginning on March 6 at 9:00am, interested citizens may show up at Southern Elementary and take part. A route has been established, and people can drive around our community and pray for people/businesses/schools/institutions via the route. On Sunday, March 7, it is suggested that prayer warriors show up at church service early, circling the church seven times and praying for the congregation. Knight’s proposed schedule is as follows: Monday, March 8—pray for our schools, community educators and leaders. Tuesday, March 9—pray for our students.  Wednesday, March 10—pray for our first responders and health care providers.  Thursday, March 11—pray for community leaders.  Friday, March 12—pray for all our church ministers and leaders. Saturday, March 13—pray for our small businesses in the county—maybe even visit one!  If you cannot show up physically, you may follow the Prayer Walk schedule from your home.
Knight closes out the Prayer Walk emphasis with Romans 12:12. “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
    Let’s unite in prayer!
