Falmouth City Council held its first virtual meeting on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, due to a couple of council members who had been affected by Covid-19 and due to some residents who were quarantining, but who wished to attend, according to City Attorney Brandon Voelker.
Council briefly discussed the redistricting possibility that Billy Matthews, Chairman of the Republican Party in Pendleton County, presented at the November 3 caucus. Council voted three to two to not participate in the letter that Matthews presented. Councilpersons Luke Price and Shannon Johnson were the dissenting votes. Councilperson Dave Klaber was not in attendance.
Mayor Ron Stinson confirmed that the stage that has been a topic of discussion does encroach upon property that Tim Morrison recently purchased. Morrison’s plan is to dismantle the current stage, allowing the city to keep the materials, and to rebuild it at his own expense. After some discussion regarding liability and details regarding who would have control of the property since it would be on city-owned grounds, the council agreed to see what the final draft would look like before making any movement on the proposal.
    In other actions:
Council voted to renew its contract with Pendleton County Recreation with the new procedures in place. The city will be invoiced for the $8,000, and the money will be used at recreation’s discretion.
Voelker conducted the first reading of the bond resolutions concerning the interim sewer project financing that will be handled by Kentucky Rural Financing Corp.
Bridge lights for the US 27 bridge are being researched. The state has confirmed that the lights are the responsibility of the city.
City hall will close to the public till further notice.
The Christmas parade is canceled; instead, Pendleton Co. Tourism is sponsoring a driving tour called Shine On, Pendleton. If your house is decorated, Tourism encourages you to add it to their virtual map. Entries will be accepted until Thursday, November 26. Displays should be ready to view by December 4. Votes will be tallied for favorite displays.
Falmouth City Council Caucus will be held Tuesday, December 1, at 6:30 p.m. The caucus will be virtual and will be presented on Facebook Live.
