The Pendleton County Wildcats find themselves in the midst of a three game losing streak following two more defeats to Scott High and Grant County.
On September 13, the team traveled to Scott and fell by a score of 4-1. The lone Pendleton County goal was kicked in by junior Chase Nichols and senior goalkeeper Dalton Hughes recorded 22 saves in the loss.
On September 15, the team looked to rebound in a home match-up with Grant County. Hughes did his part for his club as he notched numerous saves to keep his team in the game.
In the second half, Pendleton County came out aggressive and started creating scoring chances for themselves but unfortunately could not send one into the back of the net. Grant County would break through 10 minutes into the half with a goal to take the lead. Roughly 10 minutes later they would go onto add another goal to to seize firm control of the game and ultimately came away with a 2-0 shutout win. The Wildcats now sit at 4-6-1.
“There were some missed opportunities in both games this week. Our guys are playing hard every night and we’re looking to be playing our best soccer heading into the district tournament. We also need to get back to full strength,” head coach Amber Nichols said.
Junior John Wright missed both games this week due to a concussion he sustained in the September 6 match-up at Campbell County. The team is hopeful that he can return to action soon.
The Wildcats host Paris on September 20 at 5:30 p.m. and during halftime will honor their senior players.
