The Pendleton County High School Wildcat soccer team had a very productive span last week as they came away with a tie and a victory in their two games.
The Wildcats went on the road to take on Mason County last Tuesday, September 29. PC had a   productive second half and played to a 4-4 tie against the Royals.
Mason Askren, Tyler Caudill, Ethan Courts, and Tyler Volz all scored  goals for the Wildcats. Caudill and Courts each recorded an assist, and Connor Farwell had 12 goalie saves.
“The result was nice, but I’m more pleased with how the guys responded in the second half,” Wildcat head coach Brian Adams said. “It can be easy when you are facing adversity to give up and let your head drop. My guys didn’t do that. They came out and for 40 minutes showed what we are capable of when all 11 guys on the field stop playing for themselves and start playing for their teammates.”
Pendleton County returned home last Thursday to take on Fleming County. The Wildcats again dented the goals numerous times and recorded a 6-2 victory for their fifth win of the season.
Noah Barnard pulled off the hat trick with three goals and Caudill scored one goal and recorded three assists. Askren and Cody Mains chipped in a goal apiece.
“The Fleming County game was a good result for the team going into our fall break,” Coach Adams explained. “I was able to reward some guys for the work they put in during training with game time and we continued to build on the progress we’ve made in the last couple of weeks in terms of pattern of play and movement.”
The Wildcats (5-3-2) have two regular seasons game left before the 38th District Tournament. They host Williamstown this Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and then they head to Owen County on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
“I need to use those two games to focus on one or two places where we need to improve to be ready for tournament play,” Coach Adams said. “We are a team that, on our day, can compete against any team we’ll play. It’s just a matter of making sure that version of us shows up.”
