The Ladycats look to make another step in the KHSAA State Tournament on Friday, June 18 when they take the field against Daviess County. But, where and who is the county with two ā€œsā€.

The county that Owensboro is located, it boosts a population of right under 100,000 according to the 2010 census.

When they travel to Lexington for the KHSAA Elite 8 game versus Pendleton County, they will be far from home. The Ladycats faithful have proven they travel and might give them an advantage in the stands.

The Lady Panthers have a record of 32-6 with a RPI of .65764 which is top in the 3rd Region. By comparison, Pendleton County has a RPI of .60468.

Daviess Co. claimed the 3rd Region title with three victories. The first was a tight 3-0 win over Meade County and then two routs over Butler Co. 11-3 and Hancock Co. 12-2 in the championship game.

They are led by a spectacular pair of pitchers. Raylee Roby #15 has pitched in 28 games starting 20 with a 15-3 record and two saves. She has pitched 139.2 innings allowing 85 hits 43 runs of which 31 were earned while allowing 25 walks. She has struck out 178 batters and has a 1.55 ERA.

She was the winning pitcher in the semi-state victory over Ballard going all seven innings allowing only four hits, one run, two walks while striking out four.

Her pitching partner is Greysyne Whiteker #24 who has a low 1.41 ERA with a 17-3 record and one save. She pitched in 26 games starting 18. Over her 114.1 innings pitched she has surrendered 81 hits, 44 runs, 23 earned runs, 29 walks and struck out 97.

On the offensive side, their engine is powered by three players. Abby Newsom #1 is hitting .518 with 59 hits, 38 runs scored, 28 RBIs, 20 doubles, 4 triples, 2 home runs and 26 walks.

Jesse Daniels #7 and Miller Roberts #26 are both hitting in the 400ā€™s. Daniels at a .475 clip and .407 average for Roberts. Daniels has 58 hits, 34 runs, 51 RBIs, 13 doubles, 1 triple, 13 home runs and 17 walks. Roberts has 48 hits, 46 runs, 46 RBIs, 11 doubles, 1 triple, 11 home runs and 17 walks.

Two other batters, Hattie Newman #25 and Katie Mewes #10 are batting in the 300ā€™s. The rest of the regular players are batting .232 or lower.

The Ladycats and Lady Panthers did not face each other during the regular season but do have one common opponent. On May 1, the Lady Panthers went nine innings before falling to Male 2-1. That is the same Male opponent that Pendleton beat 4-2 on April 17.

With the delays the past weekend, one key question is what is the weather going to be like on Friday, June 18. Presently, it is clear skies with a temperature of 88 degrees.
