It’s been two years since Coen Fuller looked to match his brother’s feat of qualifying for the KHSAA State meet. After a COVID delay, he has done it doubly, qualifying in both the long jump and the triple jump for the AA state meet to be held at the University of Kentucky track on Friday, June 11.
The junior will be joined by teammate Garrett Jack who also qualified for two events, 400 meter dash and 800 meter run at the AA Region IV Championship held at Bourbon County High School on Tuesday, June 2.
Fuller placed second in the long jump with a personal best leap of 20 feet 1 inch. He finished four inches behind regional champ Isaac Surrey from Highlands and eight inches in front of third place.
In the triple jump, he hopped, skipped and jumped to a third-place finish with a distance of 38 feet 6 ½ inches. Surrey also won the triple jump region championship at a distance of 41 feet 9 ½ inches edging our LaDarius Conner from Harrison County whose best jump was a 41 feet 8 ¼ inches.
Fuller also competed in the 100 meter dash where he finished 11th with a time of 11.98 seconds.
Jack meanwhile was burning around the track with a personal and school record of 51.55 seconds in the 400 meter dash. It was the second time he had set the school record and regional meet is a great time to set the school record. Another school record one more time at the state meet would be a great third time in setting that school record.
In the 800 which is twice around the track, Jack ran a 2:06.94 for a fift- place finish.
Mac Tackett competed in the discus throw and his best throw was 112 feet 5 inches for a sixth-place finish. He just missed out on qualifying for the state meet.
Tyler Redden also broke that three-figure mark with a throw of 100 feet 3 inches for 8th place. The throw sets the 8th grader up nicely for future years.
