Greg Zipadelli said this week he expects the Stewart-Haas Racing team line up to stay the same. Which leads to the question of what happens to Chase Briscoe? In fact, it was just announced that the Aric Almirola has just resigned and will stay in the #10 car with Smithfield Foods continuing as a main sponsor.
Speaking of the Stewart Haas Team, Tony Stewart has to be smiling as all four of his drivers qualified for the playoffs this year. Stewart is a busy man in the sport running a four car team, driving and teams in dirt as well as owning Eldora Speedway, and starting the SRX series with Ray Evernham.
Steve Phelps discussed the 2021 season and other issues in a press conference early this week. He stressed that NASCAR was not looking to move the date of the Daytona 500 from February 14 and would be run even if spectators were still not allowed at the venue. He also said that work was back underway in the development of the Next Gen Car that was halted by the virus outbreak. Phelps said that NASCAR was continuing its effort to make the sport more open and diverse as viewership among minorities is on the rise.
NASCAR.com reported that Greg Biffle would be interested in coming back and driving for a Cup team if the situation was one he felt could be competitive. His late win was in a truck in 2016, but he has 19 wins in a Cup car to his credit.
William Byron picked a great time to pick up his first win as he also signed a new contract with Hendrick Motorsports through 2022.
Noah Gragson has signed a new contract to stay in the #9 car for JR Motorsports. The aggressive driver is popular by a lot of people, but also hated by a lot. He has a reputation for making moves that tear up cars and wreck opponents.
Former Cup driver and Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne is returning to racing in the Gander Truck Series driving for Niece Motorsports at Darlington. This will be his first race in over two years and his first ever race in trucks.
Willy T Ribbs has joined the SRX series as a driver.  He is the first African-American to drive in the Indy 500, and he  has 17 wins in the Trans Am Series.
Drivers in the series are now: Tony Stewart, Bobby Labonte, Paul Tracy, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan. Six spots remain to be filled.
Darrell Lanigan in the 29V finished in 12th place at Eriez Speedway. He stands in fourth place in the Morton Buildings Late Model standings. #1 Brandon Sheppard with a total of 13 wins so far is in first place.
