The 2022 Pendleton County Ladycats Golf team began their season in late July and the foursome has shown the ingredients to be a team on the rise in the region.
Head coach Rob Bertram leads a pair of experienced veterans as well as two newcomers who are eager to learn and ready to step up and contribute right away. The junior duo of Reese Barlow and Katie Wright will be asked to do most of the heavy lifting throughout match play this season and Coach Bertram knows they are more than capable of the task.
Reese has been our top player the past two seasons and was an All-Region performer last year and a state tournament qualifier. This summer she has played great on the Kentucky PGA Junior tour finishing inside the top 15 for girl’s ages 16-18. She’s consistently shooting rounds below 90 and has one top ten already this season in tournament play. I believe she still has much more room for growth, and I expect her to put in the work needed to play at the next level. I have told her many times that ‘you have to put down the ordinary if you want to be extraordinary’ said Bertram.
Junior returner Katie Wright continues to grow and improve as a player and has also benefited from work put in on summer tours. Coach Bertram says she is always pushing for the The top spot on the team and has plenty of room for more development. Wright has already shot personal best scores in the early portion of the season.
Rounding out the roster is freshman McKenna Morgan and eighth grader Taylor Bruener. Coach Bertram describes Morgan as having a great love for the game and someone who’s willing to put in the work to improve. She has shown improvement in every tournament thus far and appears headed for a bright career. Bruener practiced with the club last year and now joins them at the varsity level. Coach Bertram says she has the gold standard in terms of personality and temperament for playing competitive golf and believes she’ll be a great asset to the program for many seasons to come.
Collectively, the Ladycats are a squad that can rise through the standings of the 8th Region but will see tough competition, especially from the favorite, Owen County. But Coach Bertram remains eager to watch his foursome grow throughout the season and is optimistic in their ability to produce like he knows they are capable of.
