The Pendleton County Ladycats golf team clinched its first top five finish of the season at the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Invitational held in Kenton County on August 30.
Pendleton County was among 14 schools vying for the match play victory as well as earning more points towards qualifying for state tournament play at the end of this month. The Ladycats tallied a score of 380 as senior Emilie Bertram led the way with an 85. Cailyn Harper posted a 89 followed by Reese Barlow with a 102, including her first ever eagle on hole number four. Rounding out the scoring was Stormy Ward with 104 and Shelby Eckart totaling a 130.
Pendleton County picked up 50 points and currently sits in 24th place. With a pair of top 15 teams within their region, Grant and Owen County, head coach Rob Bertram and his squad know they will have their work cut out for them in the final weeks of the regular season as they try to make an impact on the state level.
“They are definitely the top contenders in the region but with their being a few more weeks of play left, my girls may have something to say about that,” Bertram said.
Pendleton County will next compete in the Gene Hilien Invitational at Juniper Hills in Frankfort.
