The Pendleton County tennis team stood across the net from some of the best tennis teams they would face in the regular season and while they only had one win for the week, there was individually some great tennis played that would set them up for regional competition.
The #1 boys doubles tea Eric Hurst and Jordan Pearson pulled out a victory over Campbell County’s #1 boys doubles team.
“These guys were down 1-5 in the first set and won the first set in a 7-6 tie break. They lost the second set 4-6 but won the super tiebreakers 10-3,” said Coach Lisa Feltner. “This puts these young men in a good place for a regional seed for tournament time.”
On the girls side, the #1 doubles girls team, Lilly Brinkdoepke and Katelin Aulick, played against the potential #1 regional girls doubles team falling 1-6, 3-6.
The Ladycats lone win over the Camels was #3 singles Alana Vickerstaff winning a super tiebreaker in her match. She lost the first set and won the second set before winning the super tiebreaker.
The girls hosted Newport Central Catholic on Tuesday while the boys hosted them on Thursday.
The girls saw Brinkdoepke/Aulick dominate 6-0, 6-0 while the #2 doubles team of Emmie Dunn and Ally Hall win in a super tiebreaker.
The boys also saw their doubles team win both matches. Hurst/Pearson won 6-4, 6-1 while Tommy Nitscheke/Tredyn Thomas won 6-4, 6-4.
To finish off the week, both teams traveled to Winchester to play George Rogers Clark. Playing six singles matches and three doubles, the boys beat the Cardinanls while the girls fell.
Both boys top doubles team won while Mason Hardy and Thomas paired up to win another doubles match. David Hurst, Nitschke and Eric Hurst also won singles.
Maddie Duff, #1 singles, played a marathon match but lost the the 2 1/2 hour match.
Brinkdoepke/Aulick continued their top play winning 7-6, 6-4 to run their regional record to 701.
