The Northern and Southern Elementary academic team members competed Saturday at the Kentucky Governor’s Cup District competition at Grant’s Lick Elementary.
Southern Elementary, Cline Elementary, Grant’s Lick Elementary, and Northern Elementary competed against each other in three components — content assessments, Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall. The top five students in content assessments and the top two FPS and QR teams advanced to regionals.
The following students from Southern Elementary placed in content assessments: Michael Pintha, first place, science; Leo Maddy, second, social studies, and fourth, science; Tori Florer, fifth, language arts, and third, arts and humanities; Ali Woodyard, fourth, arts and humanities; and Abigail Patton, fifth, arts and humanities.
From Northern Elementary, Aiden Verst placed second in math and fifth in social studies; Shiloh Williams, third, science; Logan MacNeil, third, social studies; Ethan Wright, fourth, language arts; and Lily Jones, fourth, composition.
The Future Problem Solving team worked on solving problems regarding urbanization. Northern’s FPS team, consisting of members Logan MacNeil, Evelyn Jones, Blake Barnhardt, and Beulah Gillespie, placed first at the competition.
Northern’s Quick Recall team comprised of Shiloh Williams, Aiden Verst, Lilly Jones, Jazzlynn Jones, Perry Gregg, River Tucker, Ethan Wright and Ellie Hammons placed first as well. The NES Quick Recall team went undefeated in three rounds of play.
The SES and NES academic teams will compete on March 18th and 23rd at the Governor’s Cup Regionals at St. Catherine’s of Sienna School in Ft. Thomas.
