The Pendleton County School Board Meeting met in regular session on January 11, 2021 beginning with the Health and Wellness session.  There were no comments so the board proceeded to the normally scheduled meeting.
First item of business was the election of a new chairperson.  Kevin Barnard nominated Cheri Griffin to remain as chair, seconded by Laura Schack; motion carries.
Vice chairperson to be elected.  Kevin Barnard nominated Karen Delaney remain in that position, Laura Schack seconded; motion carries.
Superintendents reports heard Mr. Buerkley speak to thank everyone who worked to get sports back up and going again.
He also thanked Trinity Southern Baptist Church for their move to feed every teacher, staff, bus driver and central office worker in the Pendleton County school system. This totals around 350 including everyone and will take place on January 25th, 26th, 27th & 28th, one school per day. “This will be a huge boost in morale and we thank you,” stated Mr. Buerkley.
Mr. Buerkley recognized each board member and presented them with a plaque and guilt of appreciation for all of the many hours and all of the effort they put into their positions as Pendleton County School Board members.  They do not take their positions lightly and work to do what is best for every child and in every situation that may arise.  Thank you Cheri Griffin, Karen Delaney, Laura Schack, Kevin Barnard and Amber Bebee.
More exciting news for our county is that US News and World Report has named Pendleton County High School (PCHS) as one of the “ Best High Schools in Kentucky.”  More than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college.  The data collected from state agencies, was primarily from the 2017-2018 academic year and was used to assign an overall score based on the following indicators:  college readiness, college curriculum breadth, math and reading proficiency, math and reading performance, underserved student performance, and graduation rate.
Superintendent Joe Buerkley presented PCHS Principal Tony Dietrich with the award and said, “As the superintendent, I am well aware of the things occurring at PCHS, but it is rewarding To see the efforts of the students and staff being recognized by others. I am proud of their accomplishments.”
Phillip Sharp Middle School roof project is complete.  A new contract for four years was approved with Superintendent Joe Buerkley.
