Academic team meets the challenge

Pendleton County High School’s Academic Team advanced to Governor’s Cup Regional Competition after coming in first overall at the District Competition. 

Pendleton's Future Problem Solving team took top honors in its event. 

In Future Problem Solving, teams are presented with a futuristic scene and are tasked with communicating possible problems and solutions from in the scenario. 

Team members are Isaac Derico, Shelby Rice, Arryanna Soden, and Hannah Thomas. 

The Quick Recall team  achieved runner-up status with members Emily Fultz, Matthew Lambert, Evan Stamper, Chase Stayton and Autumn Webster.

Members compete to answer assorted academic quiz questions while racing against the clock and the other team. 

In the composition category, in which competitors are given a writing prompt to complete, Pendleton competitors Emily Best placed third and Hannah O’Brien fourth. 

As for the test-taking categories, eight students competed. 

In the Arts and Humanities category, PC’s Autumn Webster and Evan Stamper tied for first place. 

In mathematics, Matthew Lambert placed first and Chase Stayton finished second.

These two also placed in science, with Matthew in first and Chase finishing fourth.

In language arts, Evan Stamper placed second and Autumn Webster third. 

Pendleton County not only advanced to the regional competition, but they hosted it Saturday at the high school.
