Pendleton County Schools announced last week that Patrick Kelsch had been hired as Varsity Ladycat Basketball Coach.
Coach Kelsch has plenty of varsity experience having coached at Bracken County High School and Robertson County High School in over a 15 year career.
Coach Kelsch has been quite successful over that span, winning five district titles while making 11 appearances in the regional tournament. His teams have also been able to play in the All A Tournament and have come away with four All A Regional Championships. Over that time Coach Kelsch’s teams have won a total of 242 games at the varsity level.
Coach Kelsch talked about his move to Pendleton County,
“Growing up as a basketball player in Kentucky you dream of being a Wildcat. So, now I can say my dream has come true. I just didn’t know it was going to be a Pendleton County Wildcat,” then continuing, “I’m very excited for the opportunity to coach the Ladycats and continue building on their rich history and tradition.”
Coach Kelsch brings a little tradition of his own with winning and having teams that play hard at times even above their talent level. He is sure to bring an exciting game to the gym. Which poses the question of what he sees in the future for his Ladycat teams,
“I’m excited to get started with the Ladycats, but I can’t say for sure what type of basketball we will play. That will be determined by the strengths of our personnel. As a coaching staff, we will determine what we feel like is the best strategy to give our team the best opportunity to win. That includes being specifically executed for an opponent and could change from game to game.”
That is the overall vision of what Coach Kelsch plans, but I wanted to know what the perfect Coach Kelsch team would look like,
“In a perfect world, I’d say I want to push the tempo, play fast, and have our transition offense being our most effective offense.” After thinking for a moment, he added, “I want to play aggressively on the defensive end, and let our defense create easy scoring opportunities.”
Coach Kelsch said he is still getting everything organized with the team and establishing a staff. He is also setting up a summer schedule that will include attending camp at Transylvania on June 16-18 and setting up some team scrimmage dates.
“I’m hoping to strengthen the bond of the team and work on our team chemistry while we look to improve our individual weaknesses. Collectively the summer is used to make us the best team that we can be, while hopefully staying injury free and having fun.”
The Ladycats will be hosting a youth summer camp, but as of right now the date and times have not been determined.
