Pendleton County senior Kennadi Mayer became the fourth person from the PCHS Archery program to receive a collegiate offer. She’ll be attending Kentucky Christian University located on Grayson this fall.

Mayer signed her letter of intent on March 28 and was surrounded by family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have all played a role in helping her reach her goals. A talented tri-athlete at PCHS, she has also competed for the Ladycats basketball and volleyball programs, but says archery has always had a special place on her heart.

“For me, archery has been kind of an escape. It’s much more slower-paced than the other sports I’ve been apart of and it’s always allowed me to relax, focus and find balance,” she explained.

Over the years, Mayer’s busy schedule has seen her work like a magician in maintaining balance. Volleyball season starts each fall and it quickly transitions into her winter time

obligations of basketball and archery, whose schedules often overlap leading her to be constantly shifting her focus to each sport on different days. But she says that challenge pushed her to be efficient with her time while always striving to give one-hundred percent in everything she took on.

“I wouldn’t have been able to make it all work without having understanding coaches who allowed me to compete in multiple sports.

Mayer explained that she reached out to KCU head coach Mark Whitt about the possibility of joining his team and that sparked mutual interest resulting in her visiting campus and knowing that was where she belonged.

“It’s like a big family there, everyone has been so great. It has a way of making you feel like your at home, and probably the biggest thing for me is that they do focus so much on faith and our Lord. It is just the perfect fit for me.”

Aside from her parents, younger sister, and friends, Mayer says she owes so much to the coaches who have guided her through archery over the years.

“I have to thank Mike and Rose Volz, David Myers, Katie Sullivan, and our athletic director, Jon Wirth. He also attended KCU and helped me a lot during the scholarship process. Also, I want to thank Assistant Principal Wesley Murray who was always willing to answer questions about college."

Once she arrives at KCU, she will apply her skills in learning two new bows in which to use during competition, and also adapt to having matches outdoors. She also plans to major in Psychology to one day become a psychiatrist.

Kennadi is the daughter of Eric and Lisa Mayer of Butler.
