Ladycats enjoy victory on Senior night

The Pendleton Ladycats dropped their first two games of the week but rebounded to pull out a victory on Senior Night.

On January 18, they team traveled to Paris and fell 58-50. Senior Cara Stewart was the leading scorer with 19 points go with seven rebounds. Senior Saniah Thomas had 14 points and 12 rebounds, contributing another double double for the season. Freshman Lilly Ashcraft added 10 points.

On January 20, the Ladycats traveled to Nicolas County. Despite a slow first half performance, the team clawed back in the fourth quarter to force overtime. However, Nicholas County would prevail in a hard-fought double overtime thriller by a score of 53-50.

Saniah Thomas was the leading scorer with 24 points and 11 rebounds, adding another double double to her resume this season. Cara Stewart narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds and senior Skylar Ashcraft scored six points and grabbed eight rebounds.Head Coach Patrick Kelch following the team’s loss:

“Our defense was really good. We need to improve our defensive rebounding to allow teams to only have one shot. We had an off shooting night, but because of our defense we were able to stay in the game.” he stated.

The Ladycats concluded their week with a Jan. 21 home matchup against St. Patrick, this was also the annual “Senior Night” recognition game. Pendleton County would go onto claw out a hard-fought 50-43 win. Coach Kelsch said he was very proud of the Ladycats for their effort.  Saniah Thomas was the lading scorer with 16 points and 11 rebounds, her third double double this week. Freshman Lilly Ashcraft had 12 points and Cara Stewart scored 10 points with 10 rebounds, also making a double double for her. Fellow seniors Kennadi Mayer and Emmie Dunn also made key contributions during the teams victory.

The Ladycats are now 12-6 on the season and will travel to Augusta on January 25.On January 27, they travel to face Harrison County in an important district tournament matchup. The team will round out the week with another district contest as they host Robertson County on January 31.
