Genevieve Schanding Ammerman, 97, a lifelong resident of Falmouth, KY, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the River Valley Nursing Home in Butler, KY.

Born on Dec. 29, 1925 at the former Booth Hospital in Covington, KY, she was the daughter of the late George and Emma Ritter Schanding.  In 1945 she married Kenzie Lee Ammerman, and her dear husband of 29 years, preceded her in death on October 9, 1976, at the age of 54.  A 1943 Falmouth High School graduate, Genevieve helped her father, who owned and operated the former K & T Restaurant and the Three L Hotel and Restaurant.  She swept, cleaned rooms, and sold Greyhound bus tickets for 19 cents each.  Later she helped her mother at the Lakeside Restaurant.  Genevieve was a fantastic cook; all of her food was made with love.  She devoted a great deal of time and energy into her cooking, and providing healthy options for her family was important to her.  Known for her green beans, cabbage and carrots, fruit salad, and deviled eggs, “Mama,” as she was known, greeted her grandchildren with treats of wheat germ and honey when they arrived home after school, and she always had the best home remedies for whatever ailed them.  In later years, she was often found sitting by the window and watching the world outside.  Many family and friends who passed her home on Dickerson Lane, stopped for visits at her window.  Genevieve was a resilient woman who devoted her life to her family.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter and caregiver Vicki (Greg) Marsh of Falmouth; five grandchildren:  Stephanie Gregg and Angie Snapp both of Falmouth, Christina (Chris) Keeling of Lexington, KY, Amy Pugh and Amanda (Travis) Keeton, both of Falmouth; nine great-grandchildren:  Corey (Skylar) Gregg, Zack Partin, MacKenzie (Paige) Mulloy, Tanner Keeton, Landon Snapp, Emma Keeling, Hunter Keeton, Luke Keeling, and Jase Keeton; four great great-grandchildren:  Laney Gregg, Hendrix Gregg, Grayson Partin, and Zeke Gregg; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers:  Harold Schanding in 1994 and Russell Schanding in 1936.

The visitation and funeral services were held on Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with Kevin Barnard.

Interment took place at the Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to the Hardin-Browning Post #109:  111 Montjoy Street, Falmouth, KY 41040.
