A daughter of the late Jonathan Smith, Sr. and Yuelta Fern Flynn Smith, Carol was born on Feb. 22, 1945 in Bracken County, KY.  She was raised in a loving, Christian home, instilled with values which molded and shaped how she lived her faith and loved her family and friends.

On April 4, 1962, she married David Mains, Sr. and together they raised four children and embarked on life’s journey, celebrating the good times and weathering life’s storms, anchored in the faith she held so dear.  Remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carol took wonderful care of her family.  As a member of the Falmouth United Methodist Church, Carol served in countless ways, including coordinating and working Vacation Bible School, teaching Sunday School, and always finding time to visit or call the sick and elderly. She was a homemaker, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, member of the Pendleton County Homemakers, and a talented seamstress.  When Pine Grove United Methodist Church needed a substitute minister, she answered the call and pastored that church for 11 years.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband of 61 years David Mains, Sr; four children: Valerie Mains, Vicky Mains, Sandy Heck, and David Mains, Jr.; nine grandchildren: Nicole Rouse (Rick), Margaret Jenkins, Josephine Wilson (Kevin), David W. Mains, III, Kyla Jordan Mains, Cameron Mains, Cody Mains, Jeremy Roberts and Keyla Sexton; seven great-grandchildren: Franklin Jones, Madison Wilson, Miila Rouse, Gwen Shannon, Heaven Waters, Tatum Sexton and Bensen Florer; her sister Glenda Cummins (Charles); her brother Jonathan Smith, Jr.; her sisters-in-law: Patricia Smith, Jane Blackaby, and Patty Birkshire; her brothers-in-law: Milton Mains (Cathy), Ron Graves, and Roy Mains (Patty); several nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
