Jordan Pearson and Eric Hurst continued the string of state tournament appearances by a doubles team for Pendleton County High School that has developed over the past few seasons.
After a three decade or so absence from the KHSAA state tournament, the PCHS tennis team has sent several duos, three males and one female, to state.
Pearson and Hurst ran up against the #9 seeded team from Elizabethown in the first round and fell 6-0, 6-0 but that does not dimish the streak that the tennis program is on.
For the duo playing their first year together, they seem to fit nicely together on the court.
“They have a good chemistry on court and complement each other,” said Head Coach Lisa Feltner who has been part of the coaching staff during the run.
Hurst was a singles player his first year who was switched to doubles.
“We’ve been friends since the 6th grade,” he says about his playing partner. “Jordan has a nice spin serve which is returned right back to me and I can kill it.”
Pearson in turn sees their partnership as a 50/50 split with both putting in a bunch of hard work.
“Eric is better at the net and I think I have a good ground stroke,” he said.
Coach Feltner agreed on the partnership. “They have a good temperament on the court together.”
For both, it was a goal for them to reach state and that was accomplished. A spot the PCHS tennis team is growing accustomed to be each year.
