Florence Speedway was back on the track this weekend and Josh Rice took first in the A Main followed by Trevor Landrum and Kody Evans. In the Modified feature Adam Stricker took the checkered flag with Brandon Green second and Brian Skaggs in third. May 29 will be Dollar Days as Hornets will run for $500 and the Ohio Valley Legend Cars Series will highlight the night. Gates open at 5:30 with Genral Admission $12. So get out and enjoy our local track.
Lucas Oil Late Models were postponed at 34 Raceway in Iowa due to heavy rain over the weekend. The event has been rescheduled for July 15. The Series now heads to Missouri and Lucas Oil Speedway for three events concluding with the Show Me 100 on May 29 for $30,000.
Darrell Lanigan had a couple of good races recently as he finished eighth at Brownstown Speedway and then moved over to Eldora where he captured a second place finish just behind Hudson O’Neal.
The WoO series was Pennsylvania at Port Royal Speedway for the Billy Vacek Memorial. The race was led by Brandon Overton until traffic slowed him down to which Chris Madden took full advantage of  and dive bombed underneath him to take the lead and lead to a last lap shoot out as Overton tried to reclaim the lead. Overton went deep into the turn three and lost grip sending him sideways breaking any momentum or chance to regain the lead from Madden and allowing Rick Eckert to move into second. Madden took both nights at Port Royal driving away with over $25,000. The Series heads to Indiana at Circle City Raceway on June 4 and Plymouth Speedway June 5.
The Valvoline Iron Man series raced at Somerset in the Johnny Wheeler Memorial at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Devin Gilpin led all 40 laps of the race and pick up his first win in the series. Dustin Linville came home in secondand Jared Hawkins placed third.
All of the NASCAR series were at COTA this week for the first time at the track. Saturday started early as the trucks dropped the green flag at noon. When it comes to road eaces there are always going to be names that leave you scratching  your head as road course drivers are brought in to handle the curves for many teams. If you want to add excitement to road races just add water.  The trucks ran the majority of their race with rain and most teams ran wet tires for the entire race. Todd Gillilandpulled away for a comfortable seven second lead to win for the first time since 2019. Ben Rhodes finished in the 10th spot and Hailie Deegan had a strong finish at 14th.
The Xfinity race was littered with Cup drivers doing double duty trying to get some time on the track for the first time. If it has wheels, Kyle Busch can drive it and he did so Saturday pulling away from the field for an 11 second win. This was his 98th victory in the Xfinity Series, Busch said once he gets 100 Xfinity victories he will retire as a driver from that series.
The Cup race was red flagged with 14 laps to go after visibilty, due to water on the frontstretch,  was impossible. In fact, it led to a horrible crash when Martin Truex Jr ran into the back of Michael McDowell and then was torpedoed from behind himself by Cole Custer who was going full speed. As the rain only got harder during the red flag NASCAR called the event giving Chase Elliott his first win of the season. Kyle Larson and Joey Lagano rounded out second and third.
Drivers hoping to make the playoffs on points are playing a dangerous game as Elliott becomes the fourteen different winner this season  leaving open only four spots.
Jayski.com had an interesting piece this week on Brad Keselowski. It seems an offer has been made for him to move to the #6 car and also become a partner in Roush FenwayRacing. As of now it seems this is all speculation. Keselowski is one of the good guys in NASCAR that goes out there and does his job. It would be interesting to see this happen and leaves the question of what happens with Ryan Newman.
