Officer resigns from Falmouth Police Department

    Robertson County Attorney Jesse Melcher was recommended to the Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron’s  office by Pendleton County Attorney Stacey Sanning to serve as a special prosecutor in the case involving Falmouth Police Sergeant Mark McClure’s domestic violence charge. The attorney general’s office agreed and named him to oversee the case.
    In addition, 18th District Court Judge  Bill Kuester also recused himself from the case based on the cases in which McClure had testified as arresting officer.
    Kimberly Razor, 19th District Court Judge has been appointed special judge in the proceedings and it is expected to have a first hearing on the case on Wednesday, May 19.
    McClure was arrested in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 9 after a call to 911 Dispatch. The uniform citation in which the charge was based can be read in the box to the left.
    Pendleton County Chief Deputy Marty Hart indicated that the hard drive from McClure’s computer which stores his the files for his security system has been sent off to be forensically searched. Campbell County Police Department is handling the search.
    The Falmouth Police Department announced on Monday, May 10 that McClure had been suspended without pay for the incident. McClure resigned on Wednesday, May 12.
    He had been with the department since 2018 and been active in arresting numerous individuals in drug charges.
    In his letter obtained through an open records request from Falmouth Outlook, McClure writes, “This announcment comes with a heavy heart as I have created great comradery with much of the police department and community of Falmouth, Kentucky. With Chief Shannon Clem’s guidance and leadership, it has been an honor and one of the most rewarding work experiences of my life. I will miss the many friends I’ve made through the department, the city employees and residents of Falmouth.”
    He continues, “I humbly apologize for my actions on 05/05/2021 and understand my role in the situation.....Just know for what it’s worth, you guys and this town meant the world to me and I was absolutely dedicated to serving Falmouth, which I considered home.”
