The Pendleton County Ladycats returned to action on May 7 following a rainy weather pattern that forced some cancellations. The club hosted Cooper and held its annual “Senior Night” festivities honoring the careers of Olivia Verst, Sydney Manor and Karleigh Prater.
Prior to start of the game, a ceremony was held to honor the senior trio that has played a major part in the rise to prominence of the program. As the game got underway the Ladycats found themselves down as Cooper jumped out to an early lead following a three-run homer in the first inning. Starting pitcher Kayley Bruener would go onto rack up 16 strikeouts and slug a game-tying home run in the bottom of the seventh inning after a brief rain delay. However, Cooper struck for two runs in the eighth to pull out a 7-5 win. The Ladycats outhit Cooper nine to four as Bruener and Raegan Carlisle each delivered two hits apiece. Following the game, head coach Rob Coffey had this to say about his senior players.
“This group of girls along with Sam Verst (2020 graduate) have been the pioneers of the reinvention of the program and have left their legacy with the program, school and community. They will be missed greatly!” Coffey said.
On May 8, the team traveled to Danville to take part in the Tyler Missbach Memorial Showcase held at Centre College. Pendleton County first took on Bath County and posted a 10-5 victory. The offense was rolling as the team totaled 16 hits lead by Maddy Musk and Carlisle who each had three. Olivia Verst, Karleigh Prater and Logan Cooper also had multi-hit games. Starting pitcher Kylie Richardson got the win as she threw four innings and struck out three batters. Bruener came on in relief and completed the final three innings. Later that day, the Ladycats fell to Ashland 6-1.  Pendleton County has dropped five of their last seven games as the club is dealing with nagging injuries to multiple players.
The Ladycats are scheduled to face district foe Robertson County on May 11, then travel to take on Ryle on May 13 and conclude the week back at home versus Boone County on May 14.
