Florence Speedway held their Fan Appreciation night last weekend. In the Late Models Devin Gilpin took the flag with Austyn Mills finishing second. Bryan Barber took first in he modified with Trent Green finishing second. In the Crate Late Models Trent Green came in first followed by Josh Dietz.
Atomic Speedway held the Iron Man Dan Reno/ Jackie Boggs Memorial this weekend. Devin Moran ran a spectacular race lapping up to the fifth place car on his way to pick up his first Iron Man Series win.  Local racer Darrell Lanigan came in 10th in the feature.
The Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series canceled the event at Duck River Raceway in Somerset, Ky. and is looking to reschedule either in late August or October. The Series next event will be May 22 at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, Ky. for the Johnny Wheeler Memorial. It is a North- South points race so it should draw all the best drivers in the Iron-Man series.
Looking for that special picture of your favorite dirt driver? Check out Michael Boggs Photography. He does an amazing job capturing the cars in action with some amazing photography.
Dale Jr. announced he will be racing in the Xfinity Race on September 11 at Richmond in honor of 9/11. Junior won the first race held after the 2011 terrorists attacks at Dover where he celebrated the win by circling the track while holding the American flag out of his car. Also speaking of Junior and history on the weekend of April 23, 1996 at Nashville Motor Speedway the 21 year old racer posted a third and fifth place finish competing in the Budweiser Late Model races in his first ever visit to the track.
NASCAR should have named the race Sunday the Truex 400 as he swept the entire day leading for 248 laps. The end of the race was exciting as Kyle Larson gave it everything he could muster from his car trying to catch Truex Jr., but it just wasn’t meant to be.
Justin Allgaier passed his teammate Josh Berry in overtime to win on Saturday. I’m pretty sure this will be the last race of the season for Berry as the #8 car will be driven by Sam Mayer for the  second half of the season.
The Truck race was my favorite race of the weekend as there was a 17 truck wreck that hurt some major contenders. Sheldon Creed and Ben Rhodes had a great duel to decide the winner. A couple of late restarts even made it more exciting as they fought side by side until Rhodes lost grip allowing Creed to take the lead and cross the finish line in first.
Bored? Looking for some midweek NASCAR action? Follow your favorite driver in the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series on Wednesday night. The race is broadcast on FS1 on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. The simulation is as real as you can get without actually getting behind the wheel. Last week the series ran at Darlington and used the new Next Gen cars that will actually be on the track starting next season. Everyone had the same set up and you could tell the new cars handled different as the caution flag was flying so much iRacing had to disable the feature so they could turn some green laps. The cars look smaller and more round and seemed to have had grip problems on new tires. The body is made of composite material more like the Xfinity cars so that less damage occurs when hit. Dale Jr. started on the pole and held the lead for a lot of the starting laps. Denny Hamlin was knocked out early after two big wrecks. Erik Jones made a great pass on Anthony Alfredo to take the win. There are two races left in the season this week at COTA and next week a grand prix through the streets of Chicago that is rumoured to be a test run for an actual NASCAR event next season
NASCAR seems to be drawing new fans as the TV viewership has increased now for three straight weeks. The Kansas race alone was up 26% from last year according to Jayski.com.
Bubba Wallace’s paint scheme for Darlington honored Wendell Scott who was the first full time African American driver in NASCAR.
ARCA driver Derrick Lancaster was released from the hospital last Tuesday. Lancaster suffered second and third degree burns to both arms face and neck in the fiery crash.
