After a regular season unlike any other in the storied history of Kentucky basketball, the Wildcats now face the challenge of something they have yet to prove in order in dance in the NCAA tournament: String together four consecutive wins and win their conference championship.
If the Wildcats can do that, they’ll find themselves slotted somewhere among the 68 team field with an opportunity to play for a national championship.
But first things first: Kentucky will meet Mississippi State at noon on March 11 and, should they win, they would then have to take down top seeded Alabama in the semifinals.
The Wildcats ended their regular season on a strong note as they posted a 92-64 romp over South Carolina. BJ Boston led four players who reached double-figures with 21 points.
Davion Mintz canned six treys to add 20. Dontaie Allen knocked down a pair of free throws to finish with two points in 10 minutes of action. He also grabbed two rebounds and had two steals.
This will be the first time in many seasons that the Wildcats are not among the favorites to win the conference tournament.
Kentucky was won 31 SEC championships overall with its last coming in 2018. Top seeded Alabama will be looking to win its first conference crown since 1991.
All games will be played at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville from March 10-14.
