Ladycats overwhelmed by Nicholas County pressure in district tournament
The Pendleton County Ladycats concluded their season with a 30-60 loss to rival Nicholas County in the 38th District tournament. Although the young Ladycats improvements won’t show up in the standings, Head Coach Paige Bowling’s Ladycats will be back next season one year older, smarter and hungrier. Bowling’s squad finished the season with a 5-22 record overall and a 2-11 record within region play.
Shelby Turner led the Ladycats in scoring against Nicholas County finishing with 11 points on two of eight shooting. She was selected to the 38th District All-Tournament team.
Sophomore forward Alexis Eckart also chipped in with five points on 50 percent shooting from the field. Eckart finished the game with a team-high eight rebounds.
The Ladycats were plagued by a rough shooting night shooting only 25.9 percent from the field and 20 percent from the three-point line on the game. The Ladycats shot free throws relatively decent finishing the game netting 15 of 25 from the charity stripe. Nicholas County went on to lose in the district championship game to Harrison County 40-55.
With a young nucleus returning in 2018-19, the Ladycats will be a team to watch next year in the district and Bowling will be at the head of the ship leading the charge.
