The Kentucky Wildcats finally showed signs of a maturing club as they put together a solid second half effort to hold onto defeat Auburn 82-80 on Feb. 13 at Rupp Arena.
The victory snapped a four-game losing skid for big blue as the Wildcats got a clutch three-pointer from Davion Mintz with 33 seconds remaining to pull ahead. Isaiah Jackson posted the first double-double of his career finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds while BJ Boston added 17 points.
Pendleton County star Dontaie Allen logged 10 minutes during the first half and knocked down a three-pointer for his only basket of the contest. He did not see the court during the second half.
On Feb. 9, Kentucky battled Arkansas and nearly pulled off a late comeback only to fall short, 81-80. The Wildcats trailed the Razorbacks by 12 with six minutes to go before going on a run and seizing the lead with a Mintz three with 12 seconds left. Arkansas regained the lead and on their final possession, Olivier Sarr caught the inbounds pass at midcourt and had his pass intercepted as the final seconds ran out to secure the win for Arkansas.
Allen would play just nine minutes during this matchup and was held scoreless. Over the past four games, he’s averaging 11 minutes per contest.
Kentucky will travel to take on Vanderbilt on Feb. 17 and will meet Tennessee in a road matchup on Feb. 20.
