Varsity Ladycats fall just short as JV and Freshman pick up wins

    The Ladycats headed south to take on the Harrison County Fillies in what was expected to be a close race in helping set district seeding.
    The game started off with both teams trading baskets and turnovers as the quarter progressed the Lady Fillies started stretching out their lead. In fact this would be the quarter that haunted Pendleton County at the end of the game as the Ladycats were able to win two quarters of the four.
    Underclassman Katie Wright was the spotlight player for Coach Jenna O’Hara as her play on both sides of the ball was strong. Wright ended with 17 points and seven rebounds followed by Saniah Thomas with 15 points.
    The Lady fell 57-50 a deficit highl;ighted by their inability to complete their free throws. As a team they shot 35 percent going 6 of 17 from the line.
    The JV team continued their strong play nipping the Fillies by two points. In what came down to a close finish the Ladycats found themselves down four with under a minute left in the game. As the Ladycats put on a heavy press Cailyn Harper made the steal and converted for a quick lay up. Harrison County was able to get the ball down the floor the next posession, but the Ladycats held them from scoring. The ball found its way back to Harper who put up a three that rimmed off, but Morgan Hart was there cleaning the board and finally getting the putback to fall. As time ticked away the Ladycats press again created a turnover in which Harper completed with a lay up securing the win for the Ladycats.
    The Freshman team continued dominating their opponents early Saturday morning by throttling the Lady Colonels from Bourbon County 49-12. Madison Verst lit up the scoreboard making five three pointers and leading the team in scoring with a total of 17 points. Reese Barlow added seven and Kearstin Mayer with six points.The young Ladycats are now 9-1 on the season
