Any game between Pendleton County and Bracken County is always a good competitive matchup. The girl’s basketball game last week was no exception. The Ladycats entered the game riding a two-game win streak, holding both of their opponents to just 39 points.
The Ladycats didn’t open the game in stellar fashion as shot after shot missed the mark. They were getting good looks at the rim but just couldn’t get anything to fall; however, the Ladycats were able to pull a lot of offensive rebounds and get those important second chance points, putting the Ladycats in the lead at the end of the first quarter 14-11.
The struggle continued into the second quarter with both teams only posting nine points each. Katie Wright was the only offensive threat on the floor as she put up seven of the nine points in the quarter.
Though the the Ladycats held the lead  in the second half, they couldn’t pull away from the Lady Bears. The offense was more spread out as four different players added to the point total while having their best defensive portion of the game holding Bracken County to only eight  points.
Going into the fourth quarter, Coach Jenna O’Hara’s team held on to a slim five-point lead. The play of another underclassman, Cailyn Harper, would prove pivotal as she scored all five of her points in the quarter. Harper’s play kept the Ladycats just in front as the Lady Bears rallied to have their best offensive quarter of the game, scoring 12 points. At the end of the night, Pendleton County escaped with the one point win 41-40 in another classic rivalry game between the neighbor county schools.
