25 Years Ago - October 17, 1995

    Denise Fisher, of Snakelick Road in Pendleton County, was seriously injured by a bull on her farm asshe was trying to put it back in the pasture.
    Historical Society looking for Civil War soldiers buried in the county. Eric Nagle is doing the research looking for photographs of Civil War soldiers who are buried in Pendleton County. He has received several with the majority being Confederate veterans. Recently the society placed a new tombstone for the unmarked grave of James Wesley Carr, in the Locust Grove Cemetery on Route 22. Mr. Carr was a private in Co. C. 9th KY Calvary in the Union Army.
    The Pendleton/ Grant County fox hunt planned for October 26-28 Field trials start at the cast of daybreak on Friday and Saturday on the Hardin brother’s farm, located on Broadford Road, southwest of Falmouth.
    Hot Rod, Lawn and Garden Tractor Pull to be held October 22 to benefit Pendleton Youth Football. Hot Dogs and drinks will be served admission is $2.
    Pendleton County Band to hold fall concert with special guest Dr. Kevin Eisensmith, who has worked with Bob Hope, Andy Williams among others.

50 Years Ago - October 9, 1970

    After 35 years of continuous business, Pressman’s Department Store announces a going out of business sale.
    Congressman Gene Snyder announced Friday that a grant has been received from the Department of the Interior from the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation for $354,204 for Kincaid Lake State Park.
     Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cox, Peach Grove, announce the arrival of a beautiful 8 lb. 6 oz. daughter, Alisha Lana-del, born September 19, 1970.
    Keith Fisher, general manager of Fisher’s Chevrolet, Inc. Falmouth is all smiles this week. Reason, the arrival of Thomas Bradley Fisher in his family on Wednesday, September 23, 1970. He weighed 9 lbs. 3 ozs.

75 Years Ago - September 28, 1945

    While returning from his farm work at Boston Station Friday night, Raymond Chiles was struck by a Louisville & Nashville freight engine at 7:35 p.m. at the Woodson Road crossing in Falmouth.
    The Falmouth and Milford Pike is being repaired, which is greatly appreciated by every one who travels this road and especially the men who drive school buses and milk trucks daily.
    Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gosney are remodeling their barn for a dairy and expect to install a milking machine. Lawrence Trapp and J. N. Casson have also installed milking machines in their dairy barns recently. They each have quite a good sized herd.
    George Newman, aged citizen who resides north of this city, had a close escape last Thursday when he was struck by a train on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad bridge over the South Licking River. Mr. Newman was on his way home and was trapped on the bridge when two trains approached on the north and south mains. He was struck by the caboose of one of the trains while laying between the two tracks, causing a painful injury. He is confined to his home.
    T. M. Cox and Raymond LaFollette spent Friday at Owenton and attended the horse pulling contest.

100 Years Ago - October 16, 1920

    Edward Spaulding of near Bethel cut eight heads of cabbage from his garden this week that weighed 104 pounds.
    Thurman Clayton was seen Thursday afternoon wearing a broad smile. Later it was learned that he was the proud father of an 8 pound son, born on September 30.
    H. L. Abercrombie, while assisting in filling a silo on the Newt Edward farm at Catawba last Friday, was stricken with paralysis.
    Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pribble are rejoicing over the arrival of a little son.
