25 Years Ago -June 20, 1995

    Curfew goes into effect today it will be unlawful for any person under the age of 18 to be or remain in or upon any public place within city limits from midnight to 6 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday.
    Hot Rod Lawn and Garden Tractor Pull June 24-6:30 p.m. at Falmouth Fairgrounds. Admission $3
    Andy Tackett places second in Star Farmer competition. He will receive a check for $100 and a plaque from Farm Credit services.
    Falmouth High School graduates tee shirts with the FHS logo are selling great! Due to tremendous response the alumni dance has been moved to St. Xavier gym. There will be a live band. Paul Thornberry and David Shipp are in charge of the program.
    Early morning fire guts second floor of apartment building. Three fire departments responded to a house fire on the second floor of an apartment building at 204 Peoples Street in Butler at 6:25 a.m. Butler Fire Chief Jeff Rice said children playing with a lighter caused the fire.
    Clay Sullivan was elected to state FFA vice president. One of the duties of a state officer is to meet and help motivate the younger FFA members.

50 Years Ago - June 5, 1970

    Mrs. Katherine E. Wood, daughter of the late Walter B. and Anna Bishop Wood, was born in Pendleton County on August 28, 1895 and passed away Monday, June 8, 1970.
    Roby Lee (Pappy) Warner, aged 80 years, passed away Friday, June 5, 1970.
    Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wolfe are proud to announce the arrival of a baby boy born April 3, 1970. He will answer to the name Michael Joseph.
    Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen Cummins of Falmouth, are rejoicing over the birth of a daughter born May 19, 1970. She will answer to the name of Virginia Marie

75 Years Ago - June 9, 1945

    Fire in the projection booth of the Butler Theatre caused heavy damage last Saturday night as the last show was being rounded out.
    A 19 year old Butler youth, Pfc. Robert W. Phairs, son of Albert Phairs and nephew of John Becker, was killed in action on Mindanao, the Phillippines, on May 10.
    Another rebound of the fierce Japanese War hit at home last week, when Mrs. Maude Draper of Knoxville received the news that her son 2nd Lt. Carl G. Draper, had been killed in action.
    John Hebert Weaver, fireman 1/c USNR, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weaver of Falmouth, has given his life for his country while fighting the Japanese, according to a telegram received this week by his parents.
    Mrs. Dudley Clarke, a native of Pendleton County and widow of the late John Clarke, died at her home in Detroit on Tuesday, June 5, 1945.
    Mr. and Mrs. Carey Rosselot (nee Mary Brownfield) are receiving congratulations upon the arrival of a daughter, Marianne, born May 5, 1945.
    Ezra Clarence Caldwell, son of the late William and Isabel Bush Caldwell, was born in Pendleton County on May 8, 1874 and passed away on May 31, 1945.

100 Years Ago - June 12, 1920

    Just one month ago, the angel of death visited our community and took away Eliza Harper, who passed away Monday, May 10, 1920.
    Born to the wife of August Land (nee Lucille Fleihmann), a fine little son, August Ray.
    Born May 31, to the wife of John Smith near Neave, twin daughters, Irene and Eilene.
    Robert Maddox, aged 75 years, a highly esteemed citizen, died Wednesday, June 2, 1920.
    Mr. and Mrs. John C. J. Rouse are receiving congratulations upon the arrival of a son, born Wednesday.
    Henry B. Bonar, son of James Ingram and Sarah Bennett Bonar, passed away Friday June 4.
