PCHS seniors advised to file FAFSA now!

The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority is recommending that high school seniors who plan to further their education at a college or technical school this fall complete the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1, 2016. The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is used to apply federal, state and college-based financial aid. Awards are income-based, so applying early does not guarantee award.

The first step, NEW in 2016, is to create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID at https://fsaid.ed.gov. Your FSA ID confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign your federal student aid documents, including the FAFSA. Both the student and at least one parent will need to create a FSA ID.  An active email account for both the student and the parent is required to set up the FSA ID.

The FAFSA should be completed online at https://fafsa.ed.gov. If students or their parents have not completed a 2015 tax return, the FAFSA can be filed using estimated tax information, but information must be corrected after filing your return. The FAFSA will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Assistance is available via phone at 1-800-433-3243.

The PCHS Counseling Office will be hosting a FAFSA Workshop on Wednesday, January 13 from 3:30-6 p.m. in computer lab 152 to assist students and parents with the online submission of the FAFSA.

Participants are encouraged to complete as much of the worksheet as possible prior to the event and bring supporting financial documents for reference. Several professionals will be on hand to assist in the process. Financial Aid information is available at the Guidance Department Website-Forms-Financial Aid and FAFSA section.
