25 Years Ago - June 27, 1995

    Legislators talk with teachers, parents,  and administration about KERA. Discussed were their likes and dislikes of the Kentucky Education Reform Act. Senator Ernie Harris and Representative Katie Stine visited Pendleton County High School on June 20 and 21 and were in discussion with about 40 people. Several areas of KERA were praised while others areas needed to be changed drastically. Teachers felt changes needed to be made in the portfolio requirements.
    Parade and Pendleton County Homecoming Days this Saturday. The parade starts at 2 p.m. and will begin at the fairgrounds and go down US 27 and up Shelby Street. There will be flea market booths, food booths, and lots of fun.
    Sportsmen get ready for the Ky Hunting, Fishing & Outdoor Expo. The fairgrounds will be the setting  on August 25- 27 as our area is such a hunting paradise. Sportsmen mark your calendar and get ready to hear some of the best fisherman and hunting experts talk about the sport.
    Constable to police Butler. Mayor Delbert Reid has asked Constable Peter O. Samples to focus his attention on the City of Butler when patrolling, running radar, and exercising overall police enforcement.

50 Years Ago - June 19, 1970

    Floyd Buchanan, aged 75 years, well known Butler citizen, passed away Sunday, June 14, 1970. He was the son of the late Ledlie and Anna Hornbeck Buchanan and was born in Pendleton County.
    James Tomlin, son of the late William and Ann Dunn Tomlin, was born in Pendleton County on April 27, 1892 and passed away Monday, June 15, 1970.
    Mrs. Ora McClanahan Clayton, aged 91 years, passed away Friday, June 12, 1970. Her home was Fourth Street , Falmouth.
    Ottis Winterling, formerly of Dry Ridge, passed away Monday, June 16, 1970.
    ZMrs. Marion Jean Bagby of Alexandria passed away Friday, June 12, 1970.
    Robert Dawson of Los Angeles, California, passed away in that city on March 9, 1970. His brother in Indians passed away April 15.

75 Years Ago - June 16, 1945

    Wesley C. Gosney was born July 30, 1874 and passed away Friday, June 1, 1945.
    Theodore Richardson, aged 81 years, died Saturday, June 2, 1945.
    Mrs. Mary Dunaway Gill, aged 84 years, passed away Sunday, June 3, 1945.
    Mrs. Beaulah Shipp Moore beloved wife of Woodie Moore passed away on May 24, 1945.
    Grover Cleveland Flora, a native of Bracken County, died at his home in Falmouth Sunday, June 3, 1945.
    Mrs. Stella Beagle, daughter of the late Henry and Louisa Adams Martin, was born in Harrison County on May 8, 1881 and passed to her eternal reward on May 29, 1945.

100 Years Ago - June 19, 1920

    Sugar is selling in the local stores from 25 to 35 cents per pound.
    After lingering for many days in an unconscious condition, the tender cord of life was severed and the sweet and gentle spirit of Mrs. James L. Monroe was wafted on wings invisible back to the God who gave it to this world.
    The new Christian Church at Flour Creek was dcedicated Sunday last with an all day meeting, which was attended by the largest crowd ever seen at a dedication in that section. It is said that there were 2,500 people there of all sects and creeds.
    A beautiful wedding which was witnessed by about 100 friends of the popular couple, was that of Newton King and Miss Lula Anne Martin, which was happily solemnized yesterday afternoon at 2:00 o’ clock at the bride’s home in the Curry vicinity.
    Richard Mullins, aged 87 years, a native of Pendleton County, died on Monday, June 14, at his home at Martinsburg, Mo. Mr. Mullins was born in this county January 1, 1833, and was the eldest son of the late Joseph Mullins.
