25 Years Ago - May 30, 1995

    Pool opens at Kincaid Lake State Park for Memorial Day Weekend kicking off festivities. The 8oo acre park offers a wide variety of entertainment to escape the hectic work world and enjoy solitude and relaxation.
    Patton and Forgy will battle for the governor’s seat in November election. Pendleton County only had 14% of the registered voters turn out at the polls last Tuesday. Out of 7,555 registered voters only 1,082 voted.
    Dennis B. Griffin to speak at commencement service. Griffin was raised in Pendleton County and was a member of the first graduation class of Pendleton County High School in 1960. In 1979 he was named as president of Griffin Industries, Inc.  
    Local food booths needed for KY Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoor Expo on August 25-27 at the fairgrounds in Falmouth. Any church or local organization that is interested call Frank Lucas.

50 Years Ago - May 23, 1970

    Verne T. Moreland, aged 72, of Butler, owned and operated a fleet of milk trucks in Pendleton County, drowned in a farm pond near his homeFriday, May 15, 1970. HHe was the son of Mrs. Elsie Owens Moreland and the late Thomas Moreland and was born near Butler September 4, 1897.
    Roy Fossitt, 82, passed away suddenly Saturday. He was a retired Pendleton County farmer and his wife, Mrs. Nellie Campbell, passed away March 18, 1970.
    Mrs. Mamie Spaulding, widow of Verner Spaulding passed on Wednesday, May 13 at her home on Lee’s Road.
    Mrs. Janie Frazier, daughter of the late T. J. and Ann Whitaker Holmes, was born in Pendleton County on December 14, 1883 and passed away on Tuesday, May 12, 1970. Her age at the time of passing was 86 years, four months, and 28 days.

75 Years Ago - May 19, 1945

    Mrs. Grace Delaney of this city received a telegram Sunday from the War Department, saying that her son, Vincent Delaney, who has been a German prisoner, has been liberated by the Allies.
    After serving in the United States Army Air Corps for nearly five years. Tech Sgt. Raymond (better known as Lynn) Scott, 28, has returned to civilian life via a medical discharge on May 10. He is now at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Scott, at Morgan, for a few week’s rest.
    Milton Cleon Bay of Bradford has just passed the Navy’s radar test and has qualified for a 10- month intensive course in electronics, radio, etc. according to the Navy Recruiting Station in Louisville.
    Clyde Melbourne Colvin of Mays, Indiana, formerly of this county received his petty officer’s rating May 1, 1945

100 Years Ago - May 22, 1920

    Mrs. Irela Jane Drake, beloved wife of L. H. Drake, passed from this earthly realm into the land beyond the skies on April 30, 1920.
    Another dear little daughter came to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Moffett of Nicholson on Sundaymorning May 16.
    Word was received here last week announcing the death of Mrs. John D. Wyatt on May 12.
    Born to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Cox a daughter- Coletta Marie.
    Born to the wife of Bernie Wolfe, a daughter, on Sunday Morning, May 16, at her home near Butler.
    Elijah Jett, died recently at his home in San Angelo, Texas. Deceased was a son of the late John P. and Mary Jeu, and was born on a farm near the mouth of the North Fork River in Pendleton County.
