50 Years Ago - June 5, 1970

    Mayor Max Goldberg and Falmouth City Council broke ground for the new $1,300,000 Dr. Scholl Shoe Plant on Friday May 27.
    Mrs. Garnett Greiner, aged 76, well known Falmouth citizen, passed away Wednesday, May 27. She was born in Bracken County September 22, 1893, the daughter of the late William and Dora Gillespie Mattox.
    Ed Monohon well known Pendleton County citizen passed away Sunday May 31. He was the son of the late Edward and Anna Osborne Monohon and was born January 23, 1903.
    Mrs. Ora Belle Hall, widow of Leslie Hall, passed away on Sunday May 31 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was formerly of this city.

75 Years Ago - June 2, 1945

    Charles J. Reeves, 35815713, has been promoted from private first class to staff sergeant. He has been serving with the Golden Acorn Division in the battle of Germany. A squad leader, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Reeves of Falmouth, R. 1.
    Miss Colette Crotty of Falmouth will be among the 66 seniors who will graduate at commencement exercises at the Mount St. Joseph on the Ohio Monday June 4.
    An Eighth Air Force Bomber Station, England- S/Sgt. Ballard J. Yelton Jr.  of Butler, gunner of a B-17 Flying Fortress of the 95th Bombardment Group, has been awarded the second Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for “meritorious achievement” while participating in Eighth Army Force bombing attacks on vital industrial targets in Germany and on Nazi airfields, supply dumps, and gun placements.
    Pfc. William Junior Moore, 22, has been promoted to corporal. Corporal Moore is serving with General Patch’s Ninth Army in Germany.

100 Years Ago - June 5, 1920

    Mayo Puccini, aged 70 years, died at his home near Belmont Church June 25.
    Born to Eddie Bruin of Sunny Point, a son, first heir. Eddie is wearing a broad smile.
    Miss Hilda Bradford of Butler has graduated from the Jewish Hospital as a trained nurse. Miss Bradford is an honor graduate of the Butler High School in the class of 1917, and is one of our brightest young ladies.
    Shelby Francis Boggess of this city and Miss Mayme Irene Fletcher were married Wednesday afternoon at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Fletcher, at Goforth.
    Born to the wife of Dr. V. W. Corbin of Butler on May 25, a fine little boy. He will answer to the name of William Edwin.
