25 Years Ago - June 6, 1995

    The 1995 recipient for the Pendleton County High School Wall of Fame is Captain Bryan Kent Nordheim. Nordheim is a 1985 graduate and the son of Linda Thornton, assistant principal at Pendleton High School and Bobby Nordheim. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy and recently was assigned to testing F-16 in Ogden, Utah..
    Farewell dinner to be held in honor Rev. and Mrs. Eugen Merrick and their son Nathan with a covered dish meal. Rev. Merrick and family will be leaving the Falmouth United Methodist Church to assume the pulpit of the First United Methodist Church of Louisa, Kentucky as requested by the Annual Conference.
    First Carryout visits Wyatt’s during the 5oth anniversary celebration. R. A. Goins returned Wyatt’s after more than 40 years to visit his first workplace and friends. He drove in from Georgia for the special occassion. R. A. was the first carryout and stock boy hired by Earl (Abe) Wyatt in 1950
    1995 Spring Art Show painting the old “Falmouth Depot” painted by Rick Angell will hang indefinitely in Falmouth City Hall.

50 Years Ago - May 30, 1970

    Griffin Industries, Mt. Moriah, Butler, suffered heavy losses in a fire Sunday Morning, but their plant was saved by the Butler and Falmouth Fire Departments. John Griffin, president of Griffin Industries had nothing but praise Sunday for the fire departments who worked hard most of the morning to put out the $100,000 fire. Had the building burned to the ground the loss would have been $750,000.
    Henry Dance, son of the late George and Lucy Stephens Dance was born in Pendleton County on  March 2, 1891 and passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 1070.
    George Bruin, aged 76, of Falmouth passed away May 22, 1970, he was a well known farmer and had served in the Army.
    J. Milton Caldwell, son of the late John M. and Sophia Kendall Caldwell,on June 7, 1886 and passed away May 23, 1970.
    Mrs. Mary Magdelene Tolson, aged 71 years, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 1970.

75 Years Ago - May 26, 1945

    Mr. and Mrs. Desha Whitaker of Sunrise received word last week from the War Department that their son, 1st. Lt. Benjamin Rees Whitaker was killed in action over Morotal in the Pacific on April 30.
    Pfc. John L. Lower of Demossville has been reported as missing in action.
    James Mulligan, son of the late James and Carolette Leach Mulligan was born in Pendleton County  near Marcus on April 20, 1860 and peacefully passed  on May 11, 1945 at the age of 85 years.
    Memorial services for Wenton Lloyd Fossitt will be held at the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church on Sunday, May 27. Young Fossitt was killed in action on February 6.
    Mr. and Mrs. Orville Montgomery are rejoicing over the arrival at their home of a darling baby girl on May 8, Juanita Blanche.

100 Years Ago - May 29, 1920

    The entire community of Gardnersville was saddened over the sudden death of Mrs. Lou Gardner, wife of John Gardner, which occurred last Friday night.
    Fletcher Herndon, aged 88 years, died Thursday, May 20, the husband of Mary J. Herndon, who passed away in March.
    Mr. and Mrs. Burnie Wolfe are entertaining a new daughter at their home. The little miss has been named Phoebe Lee.
    Mr. and Mrs. Gernarf Robinson are entertaining a little son at their home. This is the first heir.
    Mr. and Mrs. Baline Massey have been entertaining a new little son May 15.
ZMr. and Mrs. Howard Taylor of New Zion are entertaining a new son at their home. William Thomas.
