The Pendleton County Woodman Life Insurance sponsored a wonderful service and meal for all of our brave men and women First Responders and Veterans. Lunch was prepared by the Lenoxburg Store and hosted at the County Extension Office. Recognized were PCSO, Falmouth PD, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, Fire Department, Search and Rescue, Red Cross and Emergency Management.

Meals and drinks were served by six young ROTC members along with their Sargeant. They did an excellent job and were very professional.

Brenda Montgomery with Woodman Life welcomed everyone who attended and the crowd was large. Judy Combs kicked off the service by playing the National Anthem on her flute. Following the meal, she sang as she played a series of songs on the piano.

Gary Hicks with Woodman Life then took the stage and called Sargent Darin Brown and his Search and Rescue team to join him. Members of that team are Anita McCarty, Scotty McElfresh, Chris Lynch, Roy Thaxton, Jeannie Korb, Ray Bosser, Jimmy Taylor and Doug Smith.

As they stood on the stage the following statement was read by Hicks about the team and their leadership. “Pendleton County Search and Rescue is an important life-saving organization for our county. Formed during the aftermath of the devastating 1997 flood, this department is an all-volunteer force who donate their time and resources to serve the public in the area of land and water rescue. This requires unique equipment and specialized skills. They operate on a small budget provided by city and county governments and receive no reimbursement for any of their search and rescue missions.”

The statement goes on to talk about the many people who have been found and saved due to the skilled and heroic efforts put into action by this team. They recently sent members of the team to Eastern Kentucky searching for missing people swept away by killer flash floods. They also have gained a new member who owns search dogs and will be using that resource if needed.

Following the statements and praise of the team and their leader, Sargent Brown was presented with the Hero Life Saving Award on behalf of our everyday Search and Rescue Heroes. Pendleton County is honored to have this amazing team as well as everyone else mentioned that do what the need to do for the safety of our citizens.
