Butler City Council met at the City Building on Monday, Nov. 6 to discuss the welfare of the city, happenings, reports and new things coming up. Alice Smith was the only council member not present due to illness.

In fire department and Butler Police reports, Cody Grey and Andrew Rath were introduced as the newest members of the Falmouth Fire Department. There were several members on hand on Halloween night to pass out candy to boys and girls. The fire department did receive a grant to be used for the purpose of purchasing a Thermal Imaging Camera for the Station House. This tool could potentially be used when someone is lost in the fire. The search team can use thermal imaging to locate him/her quickly by detecting body heat, even in complete darkness making it easy to find missing persons.

Kenny Hale reported he had 90 runs/calls in the month of October. He conducted four vacation checks, 45 business checks, assisted with one fire, monitored Halloween night stating it went well. Hale also had two state warnings, three city warnings and wrote one city citation. He will be signing up for school for the next year.

The city maintenance crew did their weekly maintenance flushing, weekly checks all passed and all meters were read. The city owns a non-working Kabota tractor/mower that may be for sale in the spring of next year. More information to be given as it is learned.

The Red Cross reported attending Trinity Southern Baptist Church’s fall festival in order to allow children a first hand look at the equipment and supplies and learn how the Red Cross works for the communities.

All paperwork pertaining to the new playground equipment to be installed at the Butler playground, has been sent in to representative Bryan Noll and construction will begin in the upcoming spring. As previously reported, the city was able to apply $40,000 to the equipment with a matching fund being added which allowed $80,000 for the equipment purchased. This includes a “jungle gym” type piece with slides on it and a new swing set. One council member asked about raising money to purchase a merry-go-round. So if you see someone collecting in town, reach down in that pocket and contribute to your town’s children.

This year’s Christmas parade will be on December 16th. The city has received $110,950 to complete the purchase and installation of the Radio Read program for water meters to be replaced from Taylor Street to the tunnel. Once this is completed, all of the city of Butler will have new meters.

There will be a Mobile Health Center set up in Butler at City Hall on December 12. Time to be determined but with enough people registered to attend, it will be available for an eight (8) hour day. Please contact Jessica Ellis with North Key Community Care to register and get a time. “This is an effort to raise awareness for rural healthcare and to ensure all citizens have some sort of medical treatment” stated Mayor Taylor.

On October 27th Mayor Taylor attended meetings in Frankfort where Annexation was one of the topics presented. If annexation occurs, that means shared revenue. Negotiations will be done in an attempt to reach an agreement to annex.
