Many in the golfing circles knew about the Pendleton Country Club golf course and the challenges it presented to your game. With David Bay’s purchase of the course and upgrades he has made, Pendleton Hills has now been voted the Best Golf Course in NKY by Northern Kentucky Magazine.
Bay’s father, Bob, was one of the founding members in the 1960s. He along with a handful of other gentleman built a nine-hole course.
The front is the older two nine-hole layouts of the course with trees lining the fairways of each hole. The back nine was added in the 1990s and gives golfers more of a challenge with hills and water to traverse with their shots.
According to Bay, the course design, greens and fairways gives something for every golfer from beginner to weekend player to the very good golfers.
Bay gives groundskeeper Andy Koenig credit for the condition of the course.
Pendleton Hills is expanding their service to the community under Bay’s leadership. The restaurant has been upgraded and became a full-service option with the addition of delivery services to Pendleton County and Southern Campbell County. It was a forced addition with the virus shutting down restaurants to inside dining.

The delivery service was for Bay a necessity to “maintain our jobs.” It allowed Bay to keep the cooks and others on staff and earning an income by providing meals.
He made the decision, called his Restaurant Manager Priscilla Gravitt and said, “Let’s get ready to deliver.”
She asked when he wanted to start it and he answered, “In about twelve hours.”
Bay drove around Northern Kentucky to pick up the supplies needed and said, “We have a great staff here and I knew it would not be a problem.”
Pendleton Hills also has two venues for weddings, class reunions, etc and is continuing to upgrade those by adding air conditioning and heat to the Carriage House.
It also has been offering Saturday evening concerts to provide an entertainment and dining options for Pendleton County.
Pendleton Hills is committed to growing the game of golf locally. Bruce Oldendick gives lessons and Bay says “is a fantastic teacher and very positive with a great approach.”
He added, “I would encourage everyone to take up the game of golf. It’s easy for people to take a walk and that is what golf is. A walk with a set of clubs.”
Pendleton County residents have another thing to be proud of and take advantage: knowing that Pendleton Hills is the best golf course in Northern Kentucky. It’s a course that is open to the public,  but membership is investing in the community.
“Keep in mind, what you are doing is supporting something for the community. You can say there is the best golf course in Kentucky and it is right here,” he said while pointing out that he is not making money right now and is committed to putting everything back in growing the business.
Bay pointed out that Pendleton Hills is not the typical country club but rather a place in the community that people can gather together and just have fun.
