As a commissioned minister through the Disciples of Christ, Lexington regional office, Carey McGuire has served different churches in Kentucky. As a commissioned minister, he “helps churches find a pastor” and fills the pulpit, as needed. He has been serving Butler Christian Church since January and was called to be their full-time minister last month.

McGuire was born and raised in Lexington and graduated from Bryan Station High School. He was a member of Arlington Christian Church and felt that he was called to the ministry at age 19, because “Arlington was the kind of place that fostered that.” But life took him in a different direction. He attended the University of Kentucky obtaining a laboratory technology degree, married, and raised two children. He recently retired from Dental Lab Technology where he made crowns, bridges, dentures, and other dental appliances. While at Bryan Station, he played football and was a walk-on at UK in 1975. Because of his love for football, he began coaching high school football after college. But through all of this, McGuire felt like something was missing.

McGuire answered the call to the ministry and served as a commissioned minister. He later realized that through his life experiences, God had given him the tools he would need to serve others. “I wouldn’t be able to do the job if I hadn’t lived the life,” stated McGuire. Even though he has been serving at BCC since January, he was just coming to Butler on Sundays, because he was caring for his father. After the recent death of his father, McGuire was more available to serve. BCC called him to be their pastor last month, and his installation day was on September 10th.  He has also joined the football staff at Pendleton High School as an assistant coach. He feels that the schools are “where the growth is” and is excited to be building relationships with the football team, its staff, and the Butler community. He has already fallen in love with the congregation who he repeatedly said are “wonderful people; so kind and generous”.

God helped open the path to a home in Falmouth, and McGuire has found that he really likes this area. He is excited about being at BCC where he says that he “is here for a reason.” McGuire stated that the church is planning on reopening children’s Sunday School and youth group soon. Come welcome Carey McGuire to the community and see what BCC is all about. Sunday School begins at 10 a.m., Sundays, with worship service at 11 a.m. The church will also be hosting a Boo Bash on October 21st from 4 -9 p.m. where there will be inflatables, pumpkin painting, food, and fun for the whole family. Butler Christian Church is located at 111 High Street, Butler.
