Bah humbug! Sounds familiar, right? While the story is familiar, the setting is all new in Kincaid Regional Theatre’s production of A COUNTRY CHRISTMAS CAROL presented by H&R Block, playing December 9-18, 2022.  It's Charles Dickens' classic, dusted off and gussied up in a new country-western musical version. The score would make Patsy Cline proud, with show stopping ballads and snappy two-steps sung by a feisty bunch who deal head-on with life's joys and heartaches. All the characters are here—with some nifty variations of a 1950s American small town: Banker Scrooge, the man with the worst case of Christmas blues ever; his secretary Bobbie Jo Cratchit, a young widow with two small children, Jane and Tim; his lovable ne'er-do-well nephew Dwight; Lavinia, a good-ol'-girl with big hair and an even bigger heart; plus some decidedly Country Christmas spirits. This is a down-home pleasure from start to finish.

The Christmas production will close out the 40th Anniversary year of KRT. Founded in 1982, the theatre is striving for a renaissance after being blessed with a 2021 agreement to settle in and grow in Falmouth’s former Stonewood Gardens wedding and event facility. Since then, the theatre has installed new lighting and sound equipment and have returned the grand red drape to their expanded stage.

Some familiar faces to be seen onstage include Donald Knox (Florence) as Ebenezer Scrooge himself, Barbara Browning (Falmouth) as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Darin Hart (Falmouth) as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Bethany English (Butler) as Bobbie Jo Cratchitt, Hannah Horrell (Cynthiana) as Lavinia, and Michael English (Butler) as Dwight Scrooge. The cast is rounded out with Luke Beckett (Berry), Hannah Conrad (Falmouth), Tori Florer (Falmouth),  Madisyn Kelley (Cold Spring), Carson Kelsch (Campbell County), Miles Oldendick (Falmouth), Abigail Patton (Falmouth), Meredith Patton (Falmouth), Brett Price (Falmouth), Hannah Thomas (Foster), Willow WIlliams (Foster), Easton Browning (Falmouth), and Michael Pintha (Falmouth). The production is co-directed by a founding KRT theatre artist Shirley Merrill (Falmouth) and Bonita Pack (Grant’s Lick), with stage management by Grace Markus (Campbell County). Her first time directing, Bonita was most recently seen onstage as Mother Abbess in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. This talented group and the KRT Board of Directors are energized and excited to bring you some great Christmas spirit this holiday season!
