The Headless Horseman made his way to Falmouth this week in Kincaid Regional Theatre’s production of Horseman: A Sleepy Hollow Tale. It has become an annual tradition for KRT to put on a production of Sleepy Hollow around the Halloween season. This year, however, Michael English stepped up and wrote his own rendition of the story after performing in the productions for years.

The showings took place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday 10/12, 10/13 (Yes that’s right– this spooky story was told on Friday the thirteenth), and 10/14. Holding the show outside, audience members were able to be immersed in the authentic setting of Sleepy Hollow. This also allowed the ghost of The Headless Horseman to take his true form. Thanks to OBL Farm, a live trained horse (Prince) was able to portray The Headless Horseman in this production. Audience member Grady Lucas told us, “The live horse made it feel way more realistic!”

The weather, however, was an obstacle on the Saturday showing of the play. The show was, unfortunately, rained out shortly after the second act began.

So for those of you that weren’t able to see the end of the show or simply couldn’t make it, director, script-writer, and actor Micheal English has given us a synopsis of the show.

“Horseman" is a captivating adaptation of Washington Irving's "Legend of Sleepy Hollow." The play follows the journey of Ichabod Crane, a hopeful teacher who arrives in the mysterious town of Sleepy Hollow. As Ichabod becomes enamored with the beautiful and wealthy Katrina Van Tassel, he finds himself entangled in a love triangle with her charming and strong boyfriend, Abraham Van Brunt, or better known as, Brom Bones. Determined to rid Sleepy Hollow of Ichabod, Brom Bones uses the infamous legend of the Headless Horseman to scare him away. In a gripping new side plot we get to see the same Ichabod crane but younger and fighting in the Revolution, revealing he is the reason the headless horseman lost his head in the first place.”

The cast included: Bethany English (Katrina Van Tassel), Brett Price (Baltus Van Tassel & Washington Irving), Damein Newman (Redcoat), Dimitry Owen (Hollow Boy), Hannah Conrad (Gossip), Hannah Thomas (Gossip), Josh Devaney (Ichabod Crane), Logan Morris (Hollow Boy), Luke Beckett (Young Ichabod Crane), Mack Hodge (Hollow Boy), Madyson Mccrann (Gossip), and Allison Kalas (Elizabeth Van Tassel), and Michael English (Brom Bones & William Van Brunt).

Future plans for Kincaid Regional Theatre are producing their Christmas show— Winter Wonderettes, directed by Mikinley Grace Lustenberg. More information including ticket sales for this show can be found at krtshows.com!
