The Wildcats baseball team moved to 1-8 on the season as they picked up a huge win in their only game last week against Lewis County. The victory marks the first for new head coach Nate Jones.

Yet again, the heavy showers of rain got to the Wildcats as games against Harrison County, Owen County, and Lloyd were canceled. When asking Wildcats head coach Nate Jones how it felt to get his first career win, he had this to say, “To get that first win out of the way is nice. I’m excited for what’s to come next.

Pendleton County hosted Lewis County on April 9 and fell behind 1-0 in the third inning with a solo home run. The Wildcats bounced back in the bottom of the third with a run of their own as Cole Harlow collected as RBI. The Wildcats flipped the game on its head from there on as they would score five runs on four hits taking a 6-1 lead. The biggest hit in the inning was a triple by Jacob Frisch that drove in one. Pendleton County would hold off Lewis County in the top of the sixth  getting their first win of the year 6-1.

Pendleton County was lead on the bump by Abraham Beebe, Michael Fultz, and Cole Harlow as they collectively got the job done throwing two innings apiece. As a whole they held Lewis County to three hits on the game, while only walking three batters and striking out four.

Defensively, the Wildcats played their best game of the year as they finished without committing a single error. At the plate Patrick Patton, Carter Glahn, Jacob Frisch, and Micheal Fultz each collected one hit leading the way for the Wildcats. Head Coach Nate Jones was very happy as he had this to say about the performance, “We played clean baseball and had zero errors and made a point to tell the boys, so they recognized what they just did. When we play solid defense, we win ball games. Something we have been preaching the whole season to them. We really focused on that in our practices and the boys did a great job of implementing it during the game. We had timely hits with runners on base and solid pitching from Abraham Beebe, Cole Harlow and Michael Fultz. It was a complete game they put together and us as a coaching staff are excited to keep the momentum going.”

Pendleton County will be looking to keep things going this week as they travel for four scheduled road games. The team will take on Bourbon County, Bracken County, Williamstown and Fleming County.
