It took the entire Pendleton County High School baseball team, four members of the Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps and Woodmen Life representatives Gary Hicks and Mary Ann Cummins to keep this giant, 30 foot by 50 foot United States flag unfurled and steady during the playing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on a very windy Wednesday afternoon to open the high school baseball season. The  Woodmen Life office in Falmouth provided the flag. “We are not-for-profit life insurance company with a heart for giving back to our communities. One of those ways is through patriotism and as a result, we have access to some large flags,” Hicks said. “Master Sgt. Brian Melton and head coach Nate Jones were instrumental in making this presentation work out. We are coordinating with the varsity girls softball to display the same flag at a home game soon.” Spring sports coverage, including baseball, softball and track, begins on Page 8.
